    The social partners and the steering group Previs/Zeevissersfonds (Fund for fishermen) have renewed the first edition of the ‘guidebook for fatal incidents at sea’. These guidelines contain the steps to be taken by all concerned when an incident at sea occurs.  The guidelines can used in case of fatal incidents and serious work injuries, whether or not resulting in physical harm, both for sea fishery and recreational craft.

    In September this year The Flemish Institute for the Sea (VLIZ) en Vloot (Fleet) presented a brand new oceanographic research vessel, Simon Stevin.
    It can be used by scientists in the Belgian and adjacent coastal waters as well as in the Scheldt estuary.

    Opendoor base Koksijde 2012

    Wednesday 29th August 2012, an opendoor is organized on Koksijde military base, which focuses on the emergency services. The goal is to let the public have a view 'behind the scenes' of municipal, provincial and national emergency services.

    Reorganization Rescue Services

    Since 1st July the sea rescue services have been reorganized. There are now three rescue station with vessels (Nieuwpoort - Oostende - Blankenberge) and the rescue services are stand by 24/7.

    This weekend, on July 7th and 8th, the naval base in Zeebrugge is the place to be. You can board twelve Belgian and foreign vessels, there are helicopter demonstrations, dive initiations and cruises

    Exercise Polex 2012

    Thursday 28th June an international anti-pollution exercise was held on the North Sea, about 25 kilometres north of the coastal city of Ostend.
    Six vessels especially equipped for combatting marine pollution took part. Machinery and equipment were tested as well as coordinated manoeuvring. A total of eight vessels took part in the exercise: Zeehond and Zeetijger of Vloot (Fleet), two vessels chartered by the European Agency for Maritime Safety (EMSA): DC Vlaanderen 3000 and Interballast III, two Dutch vessels: Arca and Frans Naerebout, a Belgian navy vessel and the Provider (Ship Support) as well as an airplane and a helicopter. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, operations unrolled smoothly.
