By car

  • From the highway in Brussels take E40/A10 direction Oostend.
  • In Oostend, at the first roundabout, follow direction Blankenberge (N34).
  • Drive under the viaduct and take a left at the fourth set of traffic lights (direction Vismijn).
  • Pass the tram rails and take a left in the second street (Nieuwewerfkaai).
  • At the roundabout go to the right and drive trough the Vismijnlaan until the next roundabout (Sprotplein)(parallel with the fairway).
  • At the end of the ‘walker's quay’, you'll see a building with a glass structure.
  • Entrance side Maritime Square, sign in at the reception desk is required.
  • The Coast Guard secretariat is on the first floor.

By train

You can find the most suitable route to Ostend by train, at Online | Trainline (thetrainline.com) You can then continue your journey by bus, bike, tram or boat.

By bus

  • Take line 9 (Groenendijk – SAS Slijkens) at quai 5 at Ostend Station.
  • Get off at the Stop "Sluisplein".
  • From here you need to go by foot (approximately 20 minutes).
  • Go back to the big road you just crossed while on the bus (Dr. Moreauxlaan).
  • With your back to the shop at the corner (“Keukens Loeters”) you can see the Vismijnlaan in front of you.
  • Cross the Dr Moreauxlaan over and follow the Vismijnlaan (parallel with the fairway).
  • At the end of the ‘wandelaarskaai’, you'll see a building with a glass structure.
  • Entrance side Maritime Square, sign in at the reception desk is required.
  • The Coast Guard secretariat is on the first floor.

By tram

  • Take the coast tram (out of Oostende station take direction Knokke).
  • Get off at the stop ‘Weg naar Vismijn’.
  • From here you need to go by foot (approximately 15 minutes).
  • With your back to the shop at the corner (“Elektro Loeters”) you can see the Vismijnlaan in front of you.
  • Cross the Dr Moreauxlaan over and follow the Vismijnlaan (parallel with the fairway).
  • At the end of the ‘walker's quay’, you'll see a building with a glass structure.
  •  Entrance side Maritime Square, sign in at the reception desk is required.
  • The Coast Guard secretariat is on the first floor.

By bicycle

You can rent a bike for 2.5 euros or an electric bike for 7 euros via https://www.blue-bike.be/en

  • Cycle in the direction of the tram stop (keep the railway station at your left side), follow the Brandariskaai and Slachthuizenkaai, drive under the bridge.
  • Follow the cycling path alongside the Maria Hendrikapark, Konterdamkaai.
  • At the hospital AZ Damiaan, take a left over the zebra crossing.
  • Keep following the cycling path, it goes under a tunnel and then over a bridge.
  • Keep going straight ahead, at your left side you have the tram tracks and the marina.
  • At the tram stop “Weg naar vismijn” cross the tracks (careful!) to the left.
  • With your back to the shop at the corner (“Elektro Loeters”) you can see the Vismijnlaan in front of you.
  • Follow the vismijnlaan, always straight aheadthe coastguard secretariat building is just in front of you. 
  • The entrance is on the Square Maritime side, you must register at the reception.
  • The Coast Guard secretariat is at the first floor.

By boat

Out of the centre of Ostend there is a ferry service for pedestrians and cyclist to the other side of the fairway, where the Coast Guard Secretariat is based. The ferry service is free and leaves at the former North Sea Aquarium at the Visserskaai.

  • From the station in Ostend, turn right (towards the centre)
  • Cross the first or second bridge
  • Turn right again
  • Walk along the harbour channel to the jetty at the former Noord Sea aquarium.
